$$ Summary $$

In the midst of the bustling modernity of Indonesia’s cities and the serene traditions of its rural villages, spirits (Siluman) and ghosts (Hantu) have long been woven into the fabric of daily life. No longer merely frightening legends, these otherworldly beings have become an integral part of society—as custodians of tradition, mediators between realms, and living embodiments of folklore. However, the rapid tide of modernity disrupts this delicate balance, forcing humans and supernatural entities alike to confront growing conflicts and rediscover the harmony that once united them.

$$ Inspiration $$

Inspired by Indonesia’s rich supernatural folklore and the vibrant energy of Bandung, A Day in the Life of Indonesia’s Siluman reimagines the mystical creatures of legend as playful, mischievous spirits seamlessly woven into the fabric of modern city life. Blending the absurdity of urban living with the timeless charm of traditional myths, the story transforms ghosts, spirits, and shapeshifters into quirky, everyday figures—a pocong moonlighting as a motorcycle driver, a kuntilanak as the city’s best-kept gossip columnist, and a warteg run by a band of mischievous tuyul.

Drawing from the humor and surrealism of local ghost stories, the narrative celebrates the way folklore adapts and survives in an ever-changing world. Through its whimsical and witty portrayal of supernatural beings, the story challenges the idea that spirits exist only to haunt—reminding us instead that they, like us, have their own antics, ambitions, and strange, endearing ways of being part of the city’s heartbeat. At its core, A Day in the Life of Indonesia’s Siluman is a love letter to Bandung’s eclectic charm—a city where the extraordinary and the everyday dance in a seamless, delightful chaos.
